Vision First Initiative supports provision of free eye and cardiovascular screenings, surgeries, and general health education.

It was the fourth edition of “Vision First”, described as the “flagship” health programme Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) had organized, in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). It began in the Mushin Local Council Development Area of Lagos State a couple of days ago. The turnout of participants was recorded as massive while the result reported as second to none, according to beneficiaries.

Energy Window International (Media) had gathered that the first day of this programme recorded over 40 eye surgeries, while over seven hundred people from within the Mushin area and other parts of Lagos received full attention based on the degree of one’s case.

It was a five-day outreach organized by Shell in collaboration with Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation. It was formally declared open on the 8 of July 2025 at a ceremony attended by officials from NNPC, SNEPCo, the Lagos State Government, Mushin Local Council and leaders of communities.

“This year’s outreach is particularly special, as it is supported by the Bonga North Project as part of its social investment commitments,” SNEPCo Managing Director, Ronald Adams said in a speech read by the Head, Corporate Relations. “Following the Final Investment Decision on Bonga North earlier this year, we are beginning to see the benefits materialize — starting with initiatives like this — that deliver direct and lasting value to communities.”

Oluwaseyi Omotowa, the Chief Upstream Investment Officer of the National Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), represented by Head, Business Services, Nkechi Anaedobe also said: “This initiative embodies our commitment to improving the health and well-being of communities where operate. The Vision First programme is a testament to our partnership’s dedication to providing accessible and comprehensive healthcare services to our people.”

The Director, Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation, Dr Olukorede Adenuga, and Chairman, Mushin Local Council Development Area, Emmanuel Bamigboye also expressed their joy identifying with NNPC/Shell, co-venture partners – the Nigerian Agip Exploration Limited, TotalEnergies Nigeria and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Deepwater) Ltd, in the drive to bring comprehensive healthcare to the doorsteps of the citizens.

It would be recalled that since the inception of this programme “Vision First” in 2022, it has reached out to more than 4,000 beneficiaries, distributed nearly 2,000 eye glasses while nearly 200 people have been attended to on various kinds of vision-restoration tests and sight recovery procedures, from cataract to other corrective surgeries.
