Eni has announced award of a new offshore exploration license in Libya

Energy Window International (Media) – Eni says it has been awarded the offshore exploration License O1 following the Libyan NOC’s “competitive” 2025 open licensing round. The concession has been granted to a consortium led by Eni in partnership with QatarEnergy, “marking a significant step forward” in strengthening its upstream position in the country, the company said in an email statement.

Covering approximately 29.000 sqkm, the block Italian Eni said, lies in the offshore extension of the prolific Sirte Oil & Gas Province. “It offers notable exploration potential, including wide areas without 3D seismic coverage that could host additional hydrocarbon accumulations. The block also features various hydrocarbon indications, including stranded oil and gas discoveries”, the company said.

Eni says it will operate, under the terms of the agreement, the concession, with the consortium holding a 100% stake during the exploration and development phases. Adding that the partners already have concluded plan to conduct 2D/3D seismic acquisition and drilling activities over the first five year exploration period.

The agreement, Eni says, is expected to be formally signed in Tripoli before the end of February, in the presence of representatives from NOC and the consortium partners.

It said it has been active in Libya since 1959, and currently the leading international energy operator in the country, with equity hydrocarbon production of approximately 162,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2025.
