- Enilive HVO diesel biofuel, produced from waste and residues, reduces CO2 equivalent emissions by 79.5%.
- In 2025, Itabus used HVO with a peak of 75%: its fleet has traveled 20 million kilometers using more than 3 million liters of Enilive HVO.
Energy Window International (Media) – According to Eni, at the moment, all 100 vehicles in the Itabus fleet within the country of Italy run on Enilive’s HVOlution diesel, which it has noted in its statement as a biofuel made from 100% renewable raw materials “in accordance with the European Renewable Energy Directive”. Produced at Enilive’s biorefineries in Venice and Gela mainly from waste, such as used cooking oil and animal fats, and residues from the agri-food industry, HVOlution Eni says, is a hydrogenated vegetable oil that can be used in all validated diesel engines, and already made available in more than 1,550 Enilive service stations in Italy. HVO diesel biofuel according to the company is contributing enormously to the decarbonization of the transport sector, including heavy-duty vehicles: across the entire supply chain such that the average CO₂eq emissions reduction from Enilive HVO for traction uses in 2025 was 79.5%, if compared to the reference fossil mix.
“In this way, the collaboration between Itabus and Enilive continues. It began in 2021 on the occasion of Itabus’s debut on the Italian roads, and developed in 2024 through testing and introduction of HVOlution diesel on some Itabus vehicles”, Eni said.
In 2025, Itabus vehicles according to Eni traveled approximately 20 million kilometers using 5.7 million liters of Enilive fuel, 3 million of which were HVOlution. It added that the average diesel biofuel usage was 53%, with a growing trend that in the month of December 2025 alone, HVO accounted for 75% of the Itabus fleet’s refuelings. Eni also believes that the average number of refuelings with pure biofuel in 2026 will increase further, “confirming Itabus and Enilive’s joint commitment towards a progressively more sustainable mobility.” With an average of 900 kilometers per service, Itabus has been using Enilive biofuel also for routes to European destinations, particularly to new destinations like Zurich, Paris, Lyon, Lugano, Barcelona, Montpellier, Perpignan, Grenoble, Chambéry and Ljubljana.
“We have always been a cutting-edge company: sustainability is at the heart of our strategy, and our collaboration with Enilive is a clear example of this. Today, our entire fleet runs on HVOlution diesel biofuel, reducing emissions and bringing this revolution abroad thanks to our international services. We are confident that our partnership with Enilive will continue successfully in the future”, says Francesco Fiore, Chief Executive Officer of Itabus.
“The experience of Itabus, one of the main players for passenger road mobility in our country, demonstrates that HVOlution diesel biofuel represents an effective solution also for collective transport vehicles that must cover long distances and respect competitive travel times. For customers like Itabus, and for all our customers, in Italy and abroad we are rapidly increasing the number of Enilive Stations where refueling with our diesel from renewable feedstocks, and where people on the move can also enjoy many innovative services, including a street food offering that is unique in terms of quality and taste such as the 1,200 Enilive Café and the new ALT Stazione del Gusto restaurants”, Stefano Ballista, Chief Executive Officer of Enilive also commented.
