Emirates Electrical & Instrumentation Company (EEIC), a major contributor to the success of the UAE’s Oil & Gas industry, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MediSun Energy, a company specializing in osmotic (blue) energy technology, marking a significant step towards enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of water desalination and ensuring water security across the UAE.
Official statement from the company specifically mentioned Hagop Dermosessian, General Manager of EEIC & GCG Engineering Services, and Dusun Kim, Co-Founder & CEO of MediSun Energy as endorsing the MoU during the recent World Utilities Congress. Adding that through this collaboration which aligns with EEIC’s strategic goal to expand its presence in the renewable energy sector, EEIC will be able to leverage MediSun Energy’s innovative WEGen technology to advance energy efficiency in desalination processes and brine management.
The collaboration is expected to address pressing water and energy challenges while supporting the UAE’s sustainability and innovation goals. According to the statement, “Traditional Reverse Osmosis” (RO) systems are energy-intensive and produce brine as a byproduct, which also leads to significant environmental and economic issues. As a contrast, MediSun Energy’s pioneering WEGen technology will offer a transformative solution by enhancing energy efficiency through the use of osmotic power. As a cutting-edge technology, it does not only generate electricity, it can also and significantly reduce overall energy consumption in desalination.
