NOG returns to Abuja with greater emphasis on progress through investment, partnerships and innovation

By Ejekwu Chidiebere

The 2024 NOG Energy Week in Abuja highlighted several key themes and concerns regarding Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and its role in the global energy landscape. Experts then emphasized the need for local content implementation, attracting investment, and utilizing natural gas for economic growth and industrialization. They also discussed the importance of technology and innovation, especially in areas like AI-powered reservoir diagnostics and smart grid integration.

On local content implementation, experts stressed the need for effective implementation of the Local Content Act as a shield for indigenous companies who are sincerely aiming at driving local capacity development in Nigeria and Africa.

Discussions also focused on attracting international and regional funding into Nigeria’s energy sector and strengthening partnerships.

Highlighting natural gas as a fuel of choice, speakers were able to underline the critical role of gas in lowering carbon energy systems while acting as a key driver for industrialization.

Speakers also emphasized the role of technology and innovation, including AI-powered diagnostics, smart grid integration and modular refinery technologies, as unavoidable innovative solutions to what currently looks like an albatross threatening the global energy industry, whose goal may not be far from unleashing confusions aimed at reducing conversations around energy security and resilience to mere academic and intellectual pontifications.

Thus to ensure long-term energy security and independence, speakers also dwelt a lot more on how much role local content development, infrastructure expansion, and regional cooperation could play in the region, and globally. Arguing that the quality of leadership especially from Nigeria in driving the entire energy development conversation will certainly determine how far Africa can go in her quest for energy and economic development

This conversation will be continuing at the 24th Nigeria’s Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week which is a few days away. The theme is, “Accelerating Global Progress through Investment, Partnerships and Innovation”, and billed for June 29 until July 3 2025. It is described as a strategic event in the energy industry because of its focus and the aggressive driver in facilitating investment, partnerships, and innovation, while serving as a platform for discussion on energy and related issues amongst leaders. The event also aims at driving actionable strategies for energy development across Africa, strengthen policy frameworks, and proffering solutions to accessing funding for energy projects.

The event provides opportunity for companies to put on display the latest advancements in energy technologies and solutions, also aimed at promoting a more efficient and sustainable energy industry.

On policy and regulation, NOG Week serves as a space for discussions on energy policies and regulations, contributing to a more stable and conducive environment for energy investments.

It is also an opportunity for leaders worldwide to investigate opinions and exchange ideas thereby providing a broader perspective on matters of concern in the energy industry and related businesses.

With regard to energy security and diversification, NOG Week addresses the importance of energy security and promotes the diversification of energy sources, including Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and renewable energy.

As regards networking and collaboration, the event provides extensive networking opportunities, connecting industry professionals with key decision-makers and facilitating the building of business partnerships.

NOG Week also offers, in terms of learning and development, “a CPD-accredited Technical Seminar, providing attendees with opportunities to learn, upskill, and enhance their knowledge and practical capabilities”.

With 800 + delegates, 48 networking hours, 85+ countries fully represented, 7000+ attendees, 350+ exhibition companies, and 115+ industry speakers, no one needs to be told that the 24th NOG Energy Week is enough platform, in terms of strength and capacity, to deliver on purpose and in all “actionable insights that instigate market growth while accelerating energy progress across Africa”. And of course, the role of indigenous operators and national oil companies, in terms of their strategies for a sustainable energy transition would be dealt with exhaustively. This is with NOG Energy Awards which will recognize excellence and innovation in the Nigerian energy industry.
