By Ejekwu Chidiebere

Energy Window International (Media) – The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says it is pushing for stronger coordination among stakeholders to accelerate meter installations and reduce Nigeria’s metering gap.

This was the position, according to NERC at a NESI Metering Stakeholders’ Meeting held recently in Lagos.

Other highlights of the meeting include making way for a shift in focus from financing metering projects to better coordination among stakeholders, encouraging stakeholders to align the coordination of the four metering programmes currently running to close the metering gap, need for greater collaboration among DisCos, meter providers, and other players aimed at speeding up installations, improved metering services to ensure more accurate billing as it will help to eliminate estimated billing, and the need for a coordinated communication strategy to boost consumer awareness and participation.

Key participants at the meeting which was part of broader efforts to improve metering coverage, transparency, and efficiency in Nigeria’s electricity market according to NERC, were the World Bank, Meristem, NCC, NEMSA, DisCos, MAPs. The meeting is part of broader efforts to improve metering coverage, transparency, and efficiency in Nigeria’s electricity market.
