Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), says it will be concluding discussions with Rumuoduwere community in Elelenwo clan in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, in the coming weeks on the ways and strategies of addressing the impact of the recent spill in the community.
The company said it acknowledged receipt of a report of a leaked on its pipeline at the Elelenwo manifold in the State, a situation which was brought under control through a prompt and immediate dispatch of the company’s oil spill response team to the site, for inspection, containment, and recovery operations. Further production was also halted as a precautionary measure.
Media Relations Manager, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) Gladys Afam-Anadu, in a statement Tuesday said that the damaged line had earlier been repaired to avoid further occurrence.
She said the line was already back in operation, and a Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) to the affected community was also launched.
Afam-Anadu said: “The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) received a report on August 21st of a leak on the 28-inch Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) at the Elelenwo manifold in Rivers State.
“As a precautionary measure, production into the line was immediately halted, and our Oil Spill Response team was dispatched to the site for inspection, containment, and recovery operations.
“A Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) has been conducted. The repair of the line has been successfully completed and the line is back in operation.
“We expect to conclude our discussions with the community in the coming weeks regarding the impact that this spill has caused.”
