Energy Window International – Delcy Rodriguez, Acting President of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in the presence of the Venezuelan Minister of Hydrocarbons, Paula Henao, and the CEO of the state-owned company PDVSA, Héctor Obregón, met with Eni CEO, Claudio Descalzi in Caracas for an update from Eni on its current activities in the country, as well as its future work plan particularly now that the country is asking investment companies to come in and see and explore opportunities toward reviving the country’s stranded energy industry and its economy.

In its email statement, Eni recalled it signed what it called a “programmatic” agreement with the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and PDVSA to relaunch oil activities, specifically Junin-5 (PDVSA 60%, Eni 40%), located in the Orinoco Belt which is a heavy oil field containing 35 billion barrels of certified oil in place.

Eni said it has also been involved in the development of natural gas projects, operating specifically the Perla field in the Cardon IV license which it said is one of the largest offshore gas fields ever discovered in Latin America, located in the Gulf of Venezuela, through the company “Cardón IV”, jointly owned by Eni (50%) and Repsol (50%). Cardón IV Eni said, recently signed “Sustainability” Agreement, which it also said would aim at helping in the relaunch of production within the Perla field, increasing volumes destined for the domestic market and creating an outlet for future exports.

Eni says it holds a stake in the joint venture PetroSucre (PDVSA 74%, Eni 26%), which operates the Corocoro offshore field and another stake in Supermetanol, a petrochemical company active in the production of methanol, Eni said.

Eni said it has been operating in Venezuela since 1998, holding six mining licenses in the country, located offshore in the Gulf of Venezuela and the Gulf of Paria, and onshore in the Orinoco region. It recalled that in 2025, its hydrocarbon production in the country amounted to 64,000 boe/d, driven mainly from the Perla gas field, which represents approximately 35% of the country’s total gas consumption, which it said represents approximately 35% of the country’s total gas consumption.
