Fugro Selected for Ophir Block R FLNG Work

In The News

Fugro has been awarded a contract by Ophir Equatorial Guinea (Block R) for the provision of survey services for the development of large scale assets and infrastructure offshore Equatorial Guinea. Under the contract Fugro will deploy three of its specialist vessels, the Fugro Searcher, the Fugro Scout, and the Fugro Explorer to perform autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) surveys as well as geotechnical, environmental and metocean surveys.

The significant survey program will take place on Ophir’s Fortuna Project on Block R, where the company is planning a large FLNG installation and associated subsea structures. With the surveys beginning in November, the offshore operations are scheduled for completion in January 2016.

Ophir holds an 80% operated interest in Block R. There have been seven commercial discoveries to date in the block, five of which were made by Ophir. There is a total of 2.6 Tcf of independently certified 2C contingent resource and another 0.8 Tcf of low risk prospective resource in Block R making a total of 3.4 Tcf for the project planning case.

An FLNG development concept was selected because the gas discovered in Block R is biogenic and as a result is around 99% methane, with no contaminants or heavier hydrocarbons.
